You don’t need much material to restore the surface. You’ll need a piece of plasterboard, which you can ask for at a hardware store. Important: the thickness of the sheet you choose for the patch must be equal to the thickness of the damaged sheet.

In addition to plasterboard, you will need a wooden block, serpyanka, primer, and putty. Don’t forget about sandpaper and finishing: paint, wallpaper.

Plaster mesh-serpyanka is more convenient than self-adhesive. If you don’t have one, buy a regular one and glue, for example, PVA.

Don’t skimp on putty! Buy a normal finishing mixture specifically for drywall. Don’t try to replace it with cheap plaster: after drying, it will crack and ruin the whole job.

All of the above is inexpensive and can be found at any hardware store. Check in advance to make sure you have everything on hand. Preparation will save time.

Minor repairs

If the top cardboard layer is not broken through to the gypsum base but is superficially damaged, this is a dent. Usually, its size does not exceed three centimeters. In this case, you do not need to cut out part of the gypsum board. You will have to restore the surface relief and mask the restoration site. The work is very simple.

  • Clean the work area with a brush.
  • Apply primer for good adhesion.
  • Glue the sickle mesh.
  • Apply putty to the surfaces in 2-3 layers and wait until dry.
  • Sand the repaired area with sandpaper.

All that remains is to paint the surface and wait for it to dry. Minor repairs can be done in an hour.

Major renovation

If a serious hole of 5-10 centimeters in size appears in the plasterboard, we work differently. First, we will have to give the hole a convenient, correct shape.

  • Using a pencil and ruler, mark a square around the hole.
  • Use a hacksaw to make cuts on the cardboard from the center of the hole to the marked line.
  • Cut out the marked square.
  • Place the cutout portion onto the prepared piece of solid drywall, trace, and cut out the patch.
  • Place into the hole. Trim edges with a knife if necessary.
  • Cut a piece of wooden block so that the length overlaps the hole diagonally with a margin of 5 cm on each side. So, if the diagonal of the hole is 10 cm, the length of the block is 20 cm.
  • Insert the block into the hole, secure it on the back side with screws. Press the caps into the material to carefully fill it.
  • Insert the patch and screw it to the fixed block using self-tapping screws.
  • Glue the reinforcing mesh and prime it.
  • Fill the restoration area with putty.
  • After drying, sand the surface and prime again.
